Dr. Ropkind Scharf
Little is known of Ropkind Scharf, and most of what is known is wrong. Here are the most important theories about him:
1: He is a real doctor. He bought his certificate from Oregano State College, but lost the covering letter, so he can’t remember what he is a doctor of.
2: In reality, he is called Doc because he is good at poker.
3: He only wants you to think he is good at poker.
4: He is a mega-villain. He lives in a castle called the Krak des Scharfs on the Isle des Phantasmes off Haiti. His castle is enormous, and built from interlocking polished granite blocks that weigh fifty tonnes each, and are held together with titanium rods. The walls are two hundred metres thick, and five hundred metres high. The castle is impregnable and overlooks the sea. Visitors get fed to the sea monsters.
5: Ropkind Scharf is just an ordinary international man of mystery. All that stuff about Scharf Castle came out of a novel someone once wrote about him, but which was never published.
6: Dr Scharf is a digital construct and has a virtual existence only. He is the property of the Raiders Corp. and is copyright-protected.
7: His catchphrase is “Keep on taking the blues”, when he remembers to use it.
8: An unfinished, unpublished James Bond story mentions Scharf’s Bar:
Bond sipped his Martini. What was it about this bar that made it so special, so completely unlike any other bar he had ever been in?
Was it the sophisticated, elegant women? Or was it the men? Dealers of who knows what and secret agents for who knows where?Pirates, poets and remitance men? Or the floor show? Huge, world-renowned acts, bands he’d thought were dead, bands that wouldn’t even sit up and gargle for less than a million? Bands that everyone else had forgotten?
Or the drinks? Ah, that was it…….., the drinks. Only one bar in the world served martinis in litres……. At last, he’d found it! He, Bond was actually in Scharf’s bar itself!
